Endocrinology department was established in 1998 by professor Wu Shentao who was the department’s director. There are 48 beds and 11 clinics, with an annual 1,500 discharged patients and an annual 120,000 outpatients. It has established the sub-specialty focusing on diabetes and its complications, thyroid diseases, and obesity related metabolic diseases. Besides, the department has a specialty advantage characterized by the TCM treatment of chronic complications of diabetes and ranks in the forefront of the discipline in China.
Currently, the endocrinology department has 36 medical staff, including two doctoral supervisors and nine master’s supervisors. Besides, the department has one famous traditional Chinese medicine doctor of Tianjin, one famous young traditional Chinese medicine doctor of Tianjin, one academic experience inheritance guidance teacher of national senior traditional Chinese medicine experts, and two academic successors of national senior traditional Chinese medicine experts. In recent years, the department has undertaken more than 50 national and provincial level research projects, compiled more than 20 clinical diagnosis and treatment guidelines of traditional Chinese medicine and expert consensus, and published five SCI papers and over 300 domestic journal papers. In addition, the department has received three provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress awards.
